Optical Drive

Optical drive - Optical drives are drives that are placed in a PC so that disks, CDs and DVDs can be read and installed onto the PC so that data can be accessed for different content, e.g. if it was a music CD then the PC would read it and process the data for the music, then it would play it by using the computers media player.

CD - CD stands for compact disk and its a type/make of a digital data storage area. CD's are read in the optical drive by using a laser inside of the optical drive to read the parts of the disk that is known as binary data, which is represented by using 0's and 1's. The laser then gives this data to the computer so that it can be processed.

DVD - DVD is a newer version of CD and its much faster to use to store and process data, also it can store bigger amounts of data.

Blu - ray - Blu -ray is the latest version of the conventional and basic CD, also its just the best version of optical storage at the moment. So a blu - ray player is a lot faster in terms of processing and storing data than the other optical storage types. The blu -ray player uses a blue laser to read the parts of the disk, because blue lasers have a higher frequency more parts of the disk can be read at the same time so its much easier to use blu - ray discs and players and there is more space available on them.
