A device driver is a program that operates and monitors a specific type of device that has been inputted/ plugged into the PC. There are as many drivers for devices as there are devices and so there would be a driver for the printer, audio devices and storage devices. A lot of drivers are already installed when an operating system is bought but if this isn't the case then the drivers would need to be installed manually.
