Hard Drive
There is a type of storage known as a primary storage, this means that it is the main storage area for a device like a PC. Primary storage is volatile which means that memory is lost when the PC is turned off. A non volatile type of storage means that the ROM memory is retained, after the PC has been turned off and it is mainly used for secondary storage.

A solid state drive is a non volatile type of storage that stores data by keeping it on solid flash memory. Solid state drives aren't like hard drives, in the traditional sense as there are no moving parts inside of it, because of this its a lot faster to process and access data by using a SSD instead of or as well as a traditional hard drive, but this means that more money has to be spent as its quite expensive.

A hard disk drive is a more traditional type of primary storage that is used fro storing and recieving dta fromm multiple devices into the PC and in the PC itself. It does this by using multiple magnetic disks that are constantly rotating and are known as platters. These platters are magnetic and so they are arranged on a moving arm whcih reads and also writes the data on the disks, the data can be accessed at any time in any order, but it can depend on what data needs to be retained first. Hard disk drives are a type of volatile memory.

There are alot of HDD's that vary in size, from 500GB to 1TB. The typical HDD is a lot cheaper than an SSD, however there is a major performance difference, as SSD's are a lot faster at processing and receiving data compared to HDD's. Another reason why hard disk drives are cheaper than SSD's, its because HDD's are also a lot less durable because they can break quite easily, however SSD's are a lot more durable and stronger so they last longer. Solid state drives also have a range of sizes that are available for people to buy for different prices, for example a 250GB SSD can cost up to £200, but because its easier to process data on a SSD, more space is available to store files and photos. But hard drives can be purchased for around £80 for 200GB or more, but it depends if the user wants more size or if the user wants performance and a large storage capacity.
